Forest Floor

Hello again!
It’s been quite a while since I’ve been in touch, years actually. Four years ago a firestorm incinerated the western half of Kangaroo Island, including the Southern Ocean Lodge. Out of that disaster came the incredible opportunity to create more than 40 assemblages for permanent display throughout the new lodge, each of them highlighting the exquisite details of the island’s precious and unique biodiversity – a true labour of love.

The day after I delivered the artwork I travelled to southwest Western Australia, where I stayed in a forest of towering Karri trees, keeping company with giant domes of granite, which have rested silently for millennia, clothed in thick pelts of moss and lichen. The delicate understorey was mostly this Karri Oak, with its irresistible leaf form.
